A television actress that was arrested by the Mahalakshmi Layout Police in Bengaluru for allegedly cheating several wealthy people through social media fraud has been arrested by the Mahalakshmi Layout Police for cheating a film actress named Vanitha for cheating some rich people on a social media fraud scheme by using her public profile and social media profile to obtain wealthy people’s trust and convince them to give up large sums of money under pretenses.

Police officials said the accused would first introduce herself as a television actress and make contact with potential targets via social networking sites. Once they were in contact, she would have developed friendly relationships with the victims and would keep up regular contact to establish trust and familiarity, they said.

After gaining the trust of her targets, Vanitha would present herself as a person in need of money, investigators say. She told the victims she had pledged her gold jewellery and needed money to redeem it. The victims reported that she would ensure that the borrowed money would be repaid in two or three days, police say.

As for those who believed her claims and trusted her and the relationship that had developed over the years, several people offered to lend her money. The accused had carefully planned the transactions and didn’t choose places with cameras, detectives say. But she would meet in places where surveillance was not in place or nonexistent, so investigators could track the person and place the meetings and so on.

In fact, authorities claimed that once she got the money, she changed completely. Victims allege she stopped answering the calls and didn’t answer the calls for repayment. When the complainants tried to contact her again, they said they were unable to.

The case was brought to light when a young man who lost money to the actress approached the Mahalakshmi Layout Police Station and filed a formal complaint. Officers found that the accused was not facing allegations in just one jurisdiction. Similar complaints had been registered against her at Govindarajanagar and Jnanabharathi police stations as well.

The number of complaints indicated that the fraud operation might have been carried out for several years and had affected several people. Police are concerned that more victims might still come forward as the arrest becomes public.

After extensive investigation, officers at Mahalakshmi Layout Police Station tracked down and arrested Vanitha. She was remanded in judicial custody, and further investigations were ongoing. Financial records and communication details, and other evidence, are now being unearthed in order to determine the extent of the alleged fraud.

Police officials have warned members of the public to be careful and keep away from strangers on social media, no matter what their public profile or celebrity status. They have advised people not to lend money based solely on online relationships or emotional appeals without proper verification.

The arrest has once again highlighted the growing trend of online friendship scams, where fraudsters exploit trust and personal relationships to gain financial benefits. They believe the investigation could reveal more victims and perhaps reveal a wider network of fraudulent activities linked to the accused.
