Kannada actor Prajwal Devaraj has addressed the issue of his absence from the trailer launch of Karavali and said he never refused to dub for the film. His comments come after speculation that disappointed fans expressed their anger when they learned another artist was dubbing for Prajwal’s character.

The actor told Bangalore Times he was not contacted to dub for his role, and was shocked to find out that he was never called in for his role, and was disappointed that his voice was replaced without prior communication.

"I Never Refused to Dub."

Responding to reports that he had declined to dub for the film, Prajwal firmly denied the claims.

According to the actor, he had even asked for a dialect coach so that he could perform in the coastal Kannada dialect that was required for the film.

He said that the request was never fulfilled and that he was never called to the dubbing studio.

Prajwal has acted in more than 40 movies with various Kannada dialects throughout his career, and coastal Kannada would not have been too difficult to adapt to.

He also mentioned he had spoken the coastal dialect when shooting the film, and dubbing was relatively straightforward.

Decision to Skip the Trailer Launch

Prajwal also said he had initially agreed to attend the trailer launch event.

But his decision changed after he received the trailer on the night before the launch.

When he watched it, he realized that another artist had dubbed his character.

He was deeply disappointed that he had not been informed in advance that someone else would be giving the voice for his role.

Prajwal said if he had finished dubbing and the director had decided later that his voice did not fit with the creative vision of the film, he would have respected that decision.

What hurt him, he said, was not being given the chance to dub for his own character in the first place.

In light of learning this, via the trailer, not directly from the filmmakers, he decided not to go to the promotional event.

Fans React to Trailer Launch

The issue was also a point of discussion in the Karavali trailer launch as some fans questioned Prajwal’s absence and voiced their disapproval of the dubbing decision.

The incident quickly became a topic on social media, and speculation was raised on the actor and the movie makers’ differences.

Prajwal's clarification has now given his version of events, so the controversy occurred because of a lack of communication rather than unwillingness to participate.

Importance of Communication

The incident has certainly raised awareness in the Kannada film industry about the importance of communication between actors and filmmakers on creative decisions (dubbing).

For many actors, dubbing is also an integral part of their performances, and adds more emotion and authenticity to their characters.

In fact, the director has creative control of the final product, but industry players say that keeping actors informed on big decisions is very important to avoid misinterpretations.

In the middle of Karavali’s theatrical release, Prajwal Devaraj’s statement has shifted the focus to the greater question of transparency in the process of filmmaking.

At the time of writing, neither the film's director nor the production team has commented on Prajwal's remarks.
