The romantic drama Cocktail 2 (played by Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna) has continued to perform well at the box office despite mixed reviews. After an excellent opening weekend, the film stayed stable on Monday and crossed ₹57 crore nett in India and has now become a spiritual sequel to 2012 hit Cocktail (directed by Homi Adajania).

The movie opened on June 19 with ₹14.10 crore nett on Friday, climbed to ₹17.15 crore on Saturday, and peaked at ₹18.85 crore on Sunday with a strong ₹50.10 crore weekend. The film’s performance on Monday was closely watched by trade analysts and the film’s nearly ₹7 crore on its first weekday was taken as a strong sign of audience retention.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh praised Monday’s performance, saying that Mumbai and Delhi were driving collections. He also noted that Tuesday could get a boost from ticket discounts in multiplex chains. The industry tracker Joginder Tuteja predicted that the film will be able to surpass the original Cocktail’s lifetime total of ₹74.48 crore in its first week.
Not all trackers are as upbeat, though. TrackTollywood reported a 65% drop from Sunday’s numbers, raising questions on if the film can achieve higher ambitions than just the original’s number. But even so, the nostalgic feel, sleek looks and star power keep people interested, especially in the big cities; the movie is still going to be popular.
Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna's performances have been widely recognized and the chemistry between them and Pritam's music is also a part of the film's youthful feel. Not all of the opinions are in agreement on the emotional depth of the story, but the urban rom‑com feel of the movie has appealed to younger audiences and there hasn’t been a lack of audience growth in the film’s audience, so the film is very much a city romantic comedy.
Cocktail 2 is still holding on here on Monday with a total of ₹57 crore in India. So far the film is having such a good urban audience, discounting for tickets and nostalgia factor that it looks likely to cross the original’s lifetime collections in a few days. The next week will decide if it can go beyond that level and become one of the biggest hits of this year.
