Gatta Kusthi 2 has arrived as a lively sequel that blends comedy, family drama, romance and wrestling action. Chella Ayyavu films it in the same vein we see Vishnu Vishal and Aishwarya Lekshmi from this film and this movie deals with marriage, equality and social expectations. Vishnu Vishal plays a stay-at-home husband while Aishwarya is going into her wrestling career which causes conflict, a doping scandal and then reconciliation.
Performances are a big thing. Vishnu Vishal does well in his role and portrays it with humor and emotional depth -- especially in scenes with his daughter. Aishwarya Lekshmi does an excellent job of staying on top and being charming in the action or sad scenes. Child artist Zara is most effective with her natural expressions and Ramya Krishnan and Yogi Babu come through with humor and warmth. A good comic relief is provided by Karunas, Munishkanth and Kaali Venkat as well.
Chella Ayyavu’s direction of it will keep the original’s charm and bring in fresh conflicts while introducing a new challenge. Wrestling is high on intensity and authenticity with the wrestling scenes in the film and you’ll have an authentic and engaging wrestling atmosphere that fits in with the family drama. Cinematographer K.M. Bhaskaran’s rustic landscapes and big gym and stadium scenes are the best (and Sean Roldan’s music does a great job depicting the emotional and comedy aspects of the film so you can see it, as well as the music is great to listen to. Its songs like “Maharasi” and background score are very special that work in the film, and are songs of the sort you can do without and that are really nice to hear and really help in the movie to have.
The audience response has been positive. The film was hailed a “full family entertainer” early on on social media with comedy, romance and progressive themes. The second half, which had comedy explosions and emotional climax and a great close up, has been noted as the best. Loud cheers erupted during a Vijay reference and many people said the film was “awesome to watch with family.” Yet some of the sequel’s fans felt the first had lost its freshness.
The film’s strengths are its strong lead characters, wrestling action and family-friendly humor. It also looks at the more progressive issues of equality and respect in marriage, which make this a story more than a sports drama. Weaknesses are some familiar story turns and comparisons with the original that diminish novelty.
The film Gatta Kusthi 2 is a funny comedy, a love story and a wrestling movie. Vishnu Vishal and Aishwarya Lekshmi are great in their roles and a supporting cast adds humor and heart to the film which works as a family-friendly one. It is not perfect but it does as expected, and I am very happy it is so much fun to watch it which is one of the best Tamil movies of July 2026.
