After he died, the remains of the veteran filmmaker were brought from the city hospital to his house in Nungambakkam, Chennai. The residence was opened to the public where fans, film fraternity and political leaders paid their last respects to the legendary filmmaker.

Vijay visited the house and paid floral tributes to Bhagyaraj. The Chief Minister spent a few moments paying homage to the veteran artist and offered his condolences to the bereaved family. His visit showed the great respect Bhagyaraj commanded in politics and entertainment.

Bhagyaraj’s death was widely reported, and immediately after Bhagyaraj’s death the crowd rushed to his house to witness the filmmaker’s last glimpse as fans who he had entertained for generations in his famous films. They were holding flowers and photographs of the late director and remembering his work in Tamil cinema.

His movies lived on in Tamil Nadu and the world; they had a lot of life in them. His screenwriting and filmmaking skills have made many young South Indian writers and filmmakers very successful.

State and national political leaders were paying their respects, and Bhagyaraj was also very popular outside the cinema. Messages were sent from all over the country, and many remembered him as a visionary filmmaker whose work had an immense impact on Indian cinema.

The atmosphere at the Nungambakkam house was somber and the mourners kept arriving all day. Security arrangements were put in place to control the huge crowds that wanted to say goodbye to the great filmmaker.
