Muzammil Ibrahim has spoken about Deepika Padukone’s relationship during his days in Bollywood and his comments on social media have been well received. In an interview he said that Muzammil and not Deepika broke up at the beginning of their relationship. The breakup was not mutual and he doesn’t regret it.

Muzammil recalled that phase of his life, "It wasn't a mutual breakup, I left her. At that time I was a big star and she wasn’t. I have no regret for leaving her, I have nothing to do with it. I’m a shakt londa. She’s a big star now and I am not, but the fact is still a fact." His comments quickly went viral, and many fans thought back to the brief period in which the two were apparently linked before Deepika was one of Bollywood’s biggest stars.

Muzammil said he was more recognized at the time in the entertainment industry. He also pointed out that his statement was just his version of things and that his feelings of the breakup did not change in spite of the drastic change in both of their careers in the past decade. Deepika is now very successful, he said, but he remembered the relationship as in the past.

Deepika Padukone has never openly discussed the relationship in detail and hasn't come out on record to respond to Muzammil's allegations. Over her career the actress has always kept her personal life private and has been more concerned with the work and family. Now she is one of India's highest-paid actresses with huge hits and international adoration and numerous brand endorsements.

The interview has attracted mixed responses on social media. Some social media users appreciated Muzammil’s candor but others were surprised by the timing given Deepika's presence in the film industry. For some fans it was simply a personal story in a long time ago relationship and didn’t matter.

Muzammil Ibrahim has been in movies and TV shows but has kept so far away from the spotlight compared to some of his contemporaries. Deepika has had a good career so far and is amongst the most important actors of Indian cinema.

Deepika Padukone has not issued any comment to date on Muzammil Ibrahim's remarks. And until she decides to respond, the interview is him writing about their past relationship, and the claims are only his own memory of it.
